The Tragically Hip and Feist – “It’s a Good Life If You Don’t Weaken”

Tonight’s Juno Awards featured a performance by The Tragically Hip’s remaining members and Feist, who has long been one of my favourite singers. “It’s a Good Life If You Don’t Weaken” is one of the band’s best songs and there is real magic in this live recording.

The Tragically Hip are part of the cultural background in Canada. They were always on the radio and TV while I was growing up. I have memories of their music popping up throughout my life and once had to learn “Bobcaygeon” to sing with those in my residence during my first week at university. Having seen them perform at festivals and being surrounded by their music for most of my life, I don’t think I had a proper appreciation of them until their lead singer Gord Downie announced a terminal cancer diagnosis and they began a farewell tour.
