I walked with Celestine from the MacDonald bridge to the MacKay this morning, passing through Fort Needham and Merv Sullivan Park, and finally exploring at Seaview Lookoff. The story of the morning was Celestine leading the way down every path.

Lilacs are finally blooming here. Getting to smell them as we walked around was a delight, and Celestine picked some to bring home from the park.

I blended and strained some strawberries to make strawberry lemonade this afternoon. With the pulp left over I mixed in sugar, salt and almond milk to make homemade ice cream. It turned out delicious and the lemonade was great too.

Giving Kris Statlander a surprise championship match and victory tonight was the feel-good moment this event needed.

When I set up my own instance on a Raspberry Pi in my closet I found that the server would freeze and become unresponsive to SSH when under more demands than usual and require a manual restart. Turns out I had an inadequate power supply. Swapping that out and adding a $9 CAD wifi-connected plug should allow me to keep things going even if I’m traveling.

Visiting Facebook occasionally is so jarring because of the ad serving methods. Below a wildfire victim’s post about TD Insurance having done them wrong by canceling coverage was an ad for that same company.

Penlab has many comics by Rod Espinosa, including his steampunk fairy tales series, Neotopia, an adaptation of Moby Dick, a Clara Barton biography, and an adaptation of Dracula. I read his Steampunk Goldilocks comic this week, but his Dracula comic is something I’m looking forward to reading alongside Dracula Daily.

Shalabi Effect’s collaboration with Deirdre Smith, “On the Bowery”, is an old favourite track I hadn’t revisited in a while but it holds up. The video for it is a treat.

The Game Band just announced that Blaseball won’t be returning. I enjoyed playing it while it was active and was enamoured with the delightfully weird things that sprung out of the game and its community.

I had a lot of dried soybeans, so I cooked them in a slow cooker today and used them in a stir-fry with red cabbage and some tomatoes that had been soaking in soy sauce and lemon from a previous meal.
