This week I enjoyed thinking up Nodbun details for the city.
Hanna’s Sun Dumplings
The orc Hanna takes her frying cart around the city to offer her famous sun dumplings during lunch breaks each day. The rich spices and lentil filling are her own recipe, but the shape of the dumplings as a sun with sunbeams is traditional. She sells a chilled apple and lemon drink that contrasts with the dumplings.
Underhill Relaxation Complex
At the edge of the Earthworks is a cozy building built into the hill with dozens of small rooms meant for short rests. The furnishings vary and fit many tastes, creating a welcoming environment for many. Reading, gaming, listening to music, and other activities are encouraged at this complex, and it’s a favourite getaway for residents of busier parts of the city.
Topiary Dancers
The Gardens are home to dozens of animated topiary creatures that perform dances through the gardens, never stopping their motions. Gardeners maintain the dancers with careful, coordinated pruning on the run.
The Nodbun Warren
The largest structure in Earthworks is a rabbitfolk warren that is home to dozens of rabbitfolk who mostly all take the surname Nodbun to honour their beloved cozy communal dwelling. The warren is minimalistic but filled with conveniences and kept extraordinarily tidy by residents.
Laura Nodbun’s Sparring Space
A gym has been built next to The Nodbun Warren that hosts training and competitions in various combat sports. Four rings fill most of the space, with an office and modest locker and showering facilities taking up the remainder. Kickboxing is a notably popular sport at the gym, with an annual tournament, The Nodbun Kickboxing Classic, broadcast from the gym.
Laura Nodbun
Laura Nodbun is a decorated rabbitfolk kickboxer and mixed martial artist whose work throughout the city to promote sport has earned her respect. She spends her days teaching and running her gym, but is also known to attend many dinners and dances, making her a fixture of nightlife in The Entertainment Hub.
Copper Lantern Bikes
A group of cyclists who frequent The Copper Lantern for dinners have created bicycles that pay tribute to their favorite establishment. Each bike has an extension to its frame that creates a hook above the seat for hanging a replica copper lantern. Evening rides by groups of the cyclists create an eerie procession on foggy nights.
