Bazzite

I tried out Bazzite after doing a bit of research into what Linux options would play nice with Steam. After installing it this weekend, I have easy access to my Steam backlog and wider PC game collection for the first time in ages.

A few weeks back I received a ThinkBook that was going to be discarded. I started out with a quick install of ChromeOS Flex, but I wanted to have an OS that allowed me to do a bit more and had the thought that I’d like to revisit some old games.

I tried out Bazzite after doing a bit of research into what Linux options would play nice with Steam. After installing it this weekend, I have easy access to my Steam backlog and wider PC game collection for the first time in ages. Through Humble Bundles I amassed a bunch of games I haven’t been able to play but now might give a shot. I’ll never be very invested in PC games, but revisiting King’s Quest, Aquaria, and some digital board games might be fun.

Bazzite makes gaming and everyday use smoother and simpler across desktop PCs, handhelds, tablets, and home theater PCs.

Bazzite is designed for Linux newcomers and enthusiasts alike with Steam pre-installed, HDR & VRR support, improved CPU schedulers for responsive gameplay, and numerous community-developed tools and tweaks to streamline your gaming and streaming experience.

Own games outside of Steam? Lutris (Pre-installed) and other launchers can not only run games from most game stores, but cleanly integrate them into Steam Gaming Mode, including: Xbox Game Pass (via battle.net), EA App, Epic Games Store, GOG.com, itch.io, Rockstar Games Launcher, Ubisoft Connect, your dad’s old CDs, and more!

It was a pleasant surprise that Bazzite also made it easy to install the applications I need for work and tasks at home. It’s robust enough a distribution that I’ll happily use it as my daily driver on my home device.

The Bazzite mascot, designed by Poulpi, gives it some extra character.

  1. @apollo pretty much the same thoughts with me. Did my final swap from windows a month back (have used Linux for years but not on main pc) I agonised about the distro to choose a bit but went with bazzite and it has been a delight so far. Every game I have tried has worked and though a few programs needed replacements, I found one for everything. Been a blast so far , :blobcat:

  2. A great little distro that I have stuck with for a bit now. It’s commitment to it’s values so far has been a treat as well
