Beat Beethoven (Run 2025.09.26)

I had a great time at the Beat Beethoven 7.5K race today. It’s a race with a gimmick of finding doing before a symphony finishes a performance of Beethoven pieces.

Celestine and Tonet came with me to cheer me on, and we arrived early enough to relax at the Dalhousie Student Union Building, a place I once spent many hours studying and doing school work with friends.

I was happy with my pace of 4:59 and finishing 29th in a field of 368. It was bad for my first in-person race since 2018.

I started my Zombies, Run! tracking a bit before the gun time and got my water and medal after the race before stopping it, but the splits show a strong first kilometer pace of 4’34” and the fifth being my slowest at 5’21”. Running with a group of strong runners definitely kept me focused on keeping up.

There were points during the race when the symphony performing Beethoven could be heard on speakers, but those were just brief fun moments.

After the run was a performance by Symphony Nova Scotia, including a wonderful, stirring Star Trek medley. The race sponsor, Benjamin Bridge, provided non-alcoholic (and alcoholic) sparking wine in the venue.
