Since the middle of last year I’ve had a Mastodon instance at SeizeMeans.com. I didn’t feel I should make it open to anyone else until I put together a Code of Conduct, but today I finally pieced one together. SeizeMeans.com is a Mastodon instance open to communists, socialists, anarchists and fellow travelers. If you think you’d fit in, come join!
Mastodon is a federation of social networks. Imagine a site like Twitter or Tumblr where users can also see the content of any other site in its federation. As part of the fediverse, Mastodon can work with Pixelfed for photo sharing, Peertube for video sharing and many other services.
Social networking, back in your hands
Follow friends and discover new ones among more than 2.2M people. Publish anything you want: links, pictures, text, video. All on a platform that is community-owned and ad-free.
Mastodon isn’t just a website, it is a federation—think Star Trek. Thousands of independent communities running Mastodon form a coherent network, where while every planet is different, being part of one is being part of the whole.
Mastodon comes with effective anti-abuse tools to help protect yourself. Thanks to the network’s spread out and independent nature there are more moderators who you can approach for personal help, and servers with strict codes of conduct. The Mastodon Project
Here is a portion of the Code of Conduct for my instance:
Members of SeizeMeans.com are asked to create an environment that promotes respect and empathy for people on this instance and elsewhere. Harmful behaviour will not be tolerated and we explicitly call out transphobia, homophobia, racism and misogyny as having no place here. Political stances such as fascism, capitalism and conservatism are also not welcome as they are considered inherently harmful.SeizeMeans.com Code of Conduct
